Jez Dickson is wedding and portrait photographer, based in Chelmsford, Essex

My First Memory
Rather bizarrely, I can actually remember what I was wearing when I got my first camera! A rather fetching pair of check flares and blue army jumper (very cool & very M&S) It would have been Christmas circa 1977. My Mum always made sure we looked smart on Christmas Day so that would explain my attire. My Dad has always been a bit of a photographer on the quiet, so that would explain the camera, a Polaroid Instamatic. I spent the entire day running round the house shouting “cheese” at everyone.

The Future?
Originally Eve Arnolds iconic images of Marilyn Monroe adorned my walls before a bit of Bailey and Newton took over. The brilliant Bob Carlos Clarke then held hero mantle with his ‘White Heat’ images. Nowadays it is more of a mixture of some great wedding photographers, mainly based US based, and life in general. I constantly find myself mentally composing frames of everyday situations, questioning how I would shoot it so chuck all that in the mix and that is what I draw on I suppose. I also love following Scott Schuman as well.

The Future?
Who knows? Keep my head down, keep shooting what I love to shoot and see where it takes me. As long as I have my camera in my hand and my family by my side I don’t really mind. I have a good life and high expectations. So long as one doesn’t get in the way of the other, I’m happy to keep marching on.
