Ruan Van Der Sande is a South African born fashion photographer working out of London.
I would love to say it was when I was 5 that my grandfather (or someone really wise and inspirational) passed down his camera to me but unfortunately that would be a lie. Looking at people I work with and want to work with I am quite new to photography and its something that completely took me by surprise. A couple years ago, I think its about 4 years now I bought my wife a small little point and shoot camera for a trip we where planning abroad and its fair to say she didn't even get to hold the camera! Since then I have been shooting everything that moves and a couple of things that don't!
Again I would love to sound interesting and say names like David Bailey, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon but to be honest (and some photographers would probably try and beat me up for saying this) but those guys did nothing for me. It's the photographers from today that inspires me the most. People like Diego Uchitel, Bettina Rheims, Chase Jarvis, Roberto Aguilar and Gavin oNiel just to name a few. I also spend quite a lot of my time looking at work on the Internet and high street fashion magazines because that it what I eventually what to be shooting for.
Well since my love for photography started my life has changed for the better and if I happen to one day shoot for Victoria Secret or Sports Illustrated then I certainly wont complain about it! One thing I can tell you about my future that is certain is that I will be taking photos until the day I die...
